Annual Listening Calendar
The listening calendar helps prevent survey fatigue and ensures feedback channels are sequenced around business capacity, reporting requirements and action planning.
Calendar design considerations
- Do not schedule pulse surveys too close to the annual benchmark survey unless there is a clear purpose.
- Lifecycle channels are trigger-based and should run continuously.
- Leader-led conversations should follow major survey reporting so teams can interpret results and agree local action.
- Dashboard and action review cycles should align with executive and 'People Plan' reporting.
- Micro-surveys should be added only where there is a clear need for further insight, to support decision making and change initiatives, to help manage risk or where remedial action is need.
Example annual rhythm
| Period | Listening activity | Action focus |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | Annual benchmark survey or major diagnostic, depending on survey cycle. | Enterprise reporting, priority setting and executive alignment. |
| Q2 | Leader-led conversations and targeted follow-up. | Directorate, department and team action planning. |
| Q3 | Pulse survey or targeted micro-survey. | Progress check, emerging risks and course correction. |
| Q4 | Action review and framework health check. | Impact review and next-cycle preparation. |
| Ongoing | Onboarding feedback, exit feedback, stay interviews and people metrics monitoring. | Lifecycle improvements, risk escalation and process refinement. |
The exact calendar should be adjusted for the organisation’s survey cycle, operational peaks, reporting rhythm and capacity to respond.
