How to Navigate the Guide

Updated August 2026

This guide is designed to be used as an operating resource which can potentially be used in used it in four quite ways:

  1. Set the operating model. Confirm purpose, design principles, channel architecture, governance and cadence.
  2. Select the right channel. Use the channel playbooks to choose the appropriate listening method for the question being asked.
  3. Apply the question sets. Use the question-set library to preserve alignment with the Mastertek Effective Organisations Framework and Employee Survey while keeping each channel fit-for-purpose.
  4. Monitor performance. Use dashboards, scorecards, escalation rules and action registers to turn insight into improvement.

Relationship to the EOF and Employee Survey

The Mastertek Effective Organisations Framework and Employer of Choice Employee Survey provide the common language and diagnostic base. Where relevant this guide shows how the broader listening system references the EOF and Employee Survey - more information on the EOF and Employee Survey can be found in their corresponding companion guides.

Operating discipline

Each listening activity should have a clear answer to four questions before it is deployed:

Question Why it matters
What decision or action will this inform? Prevents activity without use.
Who owns the channel and the response? Protects accountability.
How will confidentiality be protected? Maintains trust.
How will employees hear what happened next? Closes the loop and sustains participation.
